Backlist Catalog-- Signed First Editions, Foreign Editions, Various Publishing Memorabilia, available direct from me

Basic terms in the tables below:
Condition -- I won’t always know till I look whether I have anything in excellent condition left; unless you tell me otherwise I’ll assume you prefer the excellent.
Excellent means it’s in as good a shape as a new copy in a bookstore. Because publishers don’t always take great care in shipping anymore, there might be a 0.5-3 mm dent on a corner, for example, or the spine may not be perfectly true (that is, if you lay it flat on a table the spine may differ by 10 degrees or less from the vertical). Or on paperbacks, along one edge, there might be a visible white line from rubbing in the boxes, not more than a millimeter thick. (Almost any bookseller would sell that book as new).
Very Good means it’s like a very good used book (actually a bit better because it will not have been read). There might be some small corner bends but not creases, spine somewhat out of true, perhaps some rub marks on the dust jacket, and maybe a few smaller-than-5-mm tears in the dust jacket edge.
I have a couple of “hurt books” in worse-than-very-good condition. In some cases they’re the only version of that title I have for sale, so I’m making them available. The pages are still tight, the book is still readable, but it’s not as pretty as it was.

Types of books-
HB hardbound, with dust jacket over a rigid cloth cover.
TPB, a paperback about the size of a HB. Some of the European ones have cover flaps.
MMPB: what most English speaking people mean by a paperback: a physically smaller cheaper book with a paper cover.
Some books had separate UK and US editions so I’ve noted where there’s a difference. Any other nation, you may assume it’s a translation in the language of that country. I can only vouch for the French translations; I seem to draw French translators who are better writers than I am, or perhaps my ideas just lose something in the original.

If you would like to buy something, or several somethings

Please email me  to see whether it’s still available, work out any personalization (unless asked not to I sign and date everything), and figure out how you’d like me to ship it. Please do not send any money until we've got a deal worked out and I've checked to make sure that the books are still in the condition I've listed. I don't want to disappoint anyone!

Once we have the deal figured out, I’ll then invoice you, either via PayPal or street mail, your choice, for the agreed-on price plus shipping and handling. I’ve had great luck with media rate within the US, which is very cheap, and with International Priority Mail outside the US, so that’s what I’ll propose first as a default. Obviously, the more you tell me about what you’d like, the less time it will take to get it all figured out.

And now, on with the merchandise!

Good quality signed first editions of Orbital Resonance available again!

The story of how these happened to fall into my hands is probably of little interest to most of you, but you can find it at this blog post.  For all of you, however, here's the deal:

Last year, my former agent found in a storage locker one of my most popular novels ever, the Nebula finalist Orbital Resonance, shrinkwrapped on minipallets, the original shipping packaging from 23 years ago. So far 14 out of the 18  I have unwrapped have been in excellent condition, so I have 4 which had to be priced down to Very Good. Unless you tell me otherwise, I'll assume you want  Excellent.

ADVANCED READING COPIES
These are the paperbound photocopies, usually of the uncorrected page proofs but sometimes of manuscript or copyedit, that are sent out to reviewers and to other writers for blurbage. Generally fairly small numbers (fewer than 50) are produced and covers are often just colored cardstock with title, author name, and stock promo text. Because they’re scarce, and a step or two before the final edition that goes to the bookstore, some people collect them.If you're not a collector, you will probably find them pretty dull; they're just like regular books except with dull covers and more typos.

ADDITIONAL SPECIAL ITEMS

I have a few audio unabridged editions of Directive 51 and of Daybreak Zero on CD. Some are regular audio, some mp3. There’s no really satisfactory way of signing them, but I’ll take a Sharpie and scrawl my name on the box or across the non-playing side upon request, if you like.

Commemorative watches:

Buzz Aldrin Moon Landing 25th Anniversary Watch in Original Box
Buzz authorized these for a company that makes a variety of celeb and event collectibles. One day in 1994 while he and I were working on Encounter with Tiber, a crate of them arrived. He handed me some of them in a desperate attempt, I think, to regain some closet space. I thought I had given them all away as presents, but as I was moving my office, I discovered I still had one left in a desk drawer. I don’t see any strong reason to hang onto it. It’s a perfectly nice dial, not digital, watch, in excellent condition in a case; the black cardboard store-shelf box it came in has been battered by many moves, but is the original.

Please do note that this is not a historically signficant item; other than the odd way it will be coming to you, and the fact that it’s almost 20 years after the limited edition went on sale, it is otherwise just a commemorative piece, and this particular item is only as connected with Buzz as any other product he has endorsed. I’m suggesting $110.00, but I'd be happy to hear other offers.

Sci-Fi Channel Launch Party Souvenir Watch

In a chain of odd circumstances, I was one of very, very few writers or publishing people invited to be present at the launch party for The Sci Fi Channel, back when that was what it was called, in 1992. I managed to meet, among other people, June Lockhart—we talked about cats, as I recall, and did not mention either Lassie or Lost in Space. I spent considerably more time with Leonard Nimoy; we mostly talked about how much I had liked him as Tevye in the tour of Fiddler on the Roof, and he was charming and funny and had marvelous road stories from that tour.

It just wasn’t a very book-y event. There wasn’t a Hugo or Nebula winner in the room, I don’t think, and most of the publishing people were from advertising or marketing departments, there to be wined and dined in the hopes of selling them some ads. It was truly about the TV. But, anyway, I was there, and owing to this fact, on the way out, they handed me this commemorative watch, which has been moving around with me, sitting in its case inside its box for all this time.

Dial, not digital. Rather nice looking, and clearly marked to commemorate the launch of the Sci Fi Channel. Still in its sleeve box with case inside. It’s actually much scarcer than the Buzz Aldrin commemorative, but it lacks most of the coolness of Buzz (after all, it’s just swag from a corporate launch cocktail party), so I figure I’ll split the difference between scarcity and coolness, and price it at $110.00 as well (and similarly, I'd be happy to hear other offers.)

Box of OPARCS
That is my abbreviation for Other People's Advance Reading Copies.  Back in the late 90s and early 00's, before it became clear that I read slowly if at all and didn't write very usable blurbs, publishers used to send me Advance Reading Copies in hopes of securing a book blurb.  Eventually the publishers mostly gave up, which was sensible of them, but I hate to throw a book away, so I ended up with a large number of ARCs, most of which I looked at and decided not to finish long after the due date for the blurb, but which I can't quite bear to throw away. Nearly all the books are now out of print, so there will be little if any damage to any author's sales if any of you collector types pick one up.

Update as of 12-7-2014: One enterprising dealer bought 7 of the 14 ARCs, the ones most appealing to his specific group of collectors (mainly "classic" sf from the older generation). He points out that the 7 books he didn't take contain some real finds for people who deal to YASF collectors. So if that's you, you may want to drop me a note, get the new (shorter) list, and see if you're interested.

If any dealers/collectors are interested in a list of the contents of the box (I really don't remember much of anything about it), let me know, I'll take a look and give you a fuller report, and we can work out some deal.  It's the kind of thing that a dealer who does convention tables might do well with.
